The music album <strong><em>Punlaan<\/em><\/strong> will be featuring original compositions by Filipino farmers, indigenous peoples and cultural workers.\u00a0The album launch caps an \u201corganic food and farming for all\u201d-themed exhibition on the same day.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Punlaan<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0pertains to fertile soil. The album offers songs narrating the continuing plight, aspirations and\u00a0struggle\u00a0of Filipino\u00a0farmers across the nation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Punlaan<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0will be launched on October 22, 4pm at the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Gymnasium amid\u00a0peasant and indigenous Filipinos\u2019 campaign for land and rights and an overarching call for\u00a0a just and lasting peace.<\/p>\n<p>In various textures and featuring indigenous Filipino sound and music forged through the centuries, the songs depict the\u00a0neocolonial nature of\u00a0Philippine society and how it causes farmers\u2019 miseries\u00a0<em>(Neo Kolonyal; Manggagawang Bukid; Ambahan; Mangunguma Ako)<\/em>, the plunder of agricultural resources by\u00a0corporate projects posing as\u00a0bringers of development leading to farmers\u2019 and indigenous peoples\u2019 displacement and rights violations\u00a0<em>(On Potok;\u00a0Saringsing sa Oma; Kabudlay ng Mangingisda; Bakwit);\u00a0<\/em>how farmers\u2019 and indigenous peoples\u2019 communities painstakingly sow and reap the benefits of\u00a0collective work, and continue to strengthen their ranks and unify with other sectors to achieve\u00a0social justice\u00a0<em>(Misyonero ng Kanayunan; Pagay;\u00a0Magsasaka Ikaw ang Punla;\u00a0Titulo)<\/em>. The album\u2019s bonus track\u00a0<em>On Bado Kong Ledot<\/em>\u00a0also speaks<em>\u00a0<\/em>of a farmers\u2019 family\u2019s travails beginning with a child\u2019s lament of having\u00a0only one piece of torn garment to wear.<\/p>\n<p>For the album, IBON\u00a0collaborated\u00a0with the Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) with help from DAR, the League of Authors of Public Interest Songs (LAPIS),\u00a0Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), and\u00a0the National Center for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and support from\u00a0the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC).<\/p>\n<p>A Green Action Exchange side event will feature an exhibit of organic products, photos and methods. The Exchange will be spearheaded by the Green Action PH Network composed of various groups united on the importance of advancing green producerism. With these activities aiming to reach out to the broad Filipino public, IBON and\u00a0Green Action PH Network likewise join Green Action Week, a globally coordinated\u00a0campaign for\u00a0organic food and farming for all.<\/p>\n<p><em>(<\/em><em><strong>Punlaan<\/strong><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>artists hail from various\u00a0groups of farmers, workers and cultural workers from the Cordilleras to Mindanao: the TUBAW Music Collective, Salidummay-Dap-ayan iti Kultura ti Kordilyera (DKK), Sining Kanlungan, REDs PangKat Sining (Redemptorists-Simbahan at Sining para sa Katarungang Panlipunan) with Bigkis at Lakas ng Katutubo sa Timog Kataglugan (BALATIK) and DUMAGAT Sierra Madre, Samahan ng mga Magsasaka sa Kanlurang Mindoro (SAMAKAMI), Unyon ng mga Manggagawang Bukid sa Kanlurang Mindoro (UMBKM), Sining Banwa Albay Performance Collective Inc.
