Since the passage of EPIRA in 2001, electricity generation and distribution have largely been privatized, while the government mainly sets policies and regulates the industry. The Renewable Energy Act of 2008 also encourages private companies to invest in renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, much of the country&#8217;s energy industry is controlled by a small number of large corporations.
