Sa ngayon, coal pa rin ang pangunahing pinagmumulan ng kuryente sa bansa. Dahil dito, madaling maapektuhan ang bansa ng pagtaas ng presyo sa pandaigdigang merkado at mga problema sa suplay. Mula nang maipasa ang EPIRA noong 2001, higit na napunta sa pribadong sektor ang paglikha at pamamahagi ng kuryente, habang ang pangunahing papel ng pamahalaan ay ang paggawa ng mga polisiya at pag-regulate sa industriya. Sa ilalim naman ng Renewable Energy Act of 2008, hinihikayat din ang mga pribadong kumpanya na mamuhunan sa renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sa kasalukuyan, iilang malalaking korporasyon ang may kontrol sa malaking bahagi ng industriya ng enerhiya sa Pilipinas.
