Eight out of ten Filipinos oppose Arroyo’s plan to stay in gov’t as representative

Allegations that Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo wants to remain in power through House speakership are ripe, and latest survey results show that most Filipinos do not favor her staying in government as a representative.

According to the April 2010 IBON survey, most Filipinos oppose the candidacy of Pres. Arroyo in the 2nd district of Pampanga. Of the number of respondents who said they were aware of Pres. Arroyo’s plans (73.5%), 87% said that they were not in favor of her staying in government as representative, while 6% said they were.

Since July 2009, majority of respondents have continued to oppose Arroyo’s plan to run for Congress and extend her stay in government. The latest IBON nationwide survey was conducted from April 9 to 18 using a multi-stage probability sampling scheme and has a margin of error of plus or minus three percent. (end)
